Up to 60% of all children suffer an injury to the primary dentition. Of those, up to 40% will suffer an injury to the primary teeth by age 5. The most common injury, are injuries to the upper front teeth.
Avulsed Tooth:is a tooth that has come completely out of the mouth. If this occurs, you must locate the tooth to rule out aspiration or swallowing of the tooth. Once the tooth has been found do not brush or rub the tooth and place it in milk or Save-A-Tooth Solution.
Chipped Tooth: is a tooth that has been fractured due to trauma and only a portion of the tooth has come out. Locate the piece of the tooth that has been chipped off to rule out aspiration, swallowing, or impaction. Chipped teeth can be treated several ways depending on the amount of tooth lost.
Mouth Guard: According to the American Dental Association, more than 200,000 oral injuries are prevented annually in the US by sports mouth guards. There are many types of mouth guards, and the correct one for you will be selected after a consultation with Dr. Patel. A custom mouth guard made in a dental office, will provide a more adequate fit and more protection than any mouth guard bought in a store.
